In today's workplace, managing threats requires a proactive, collaborative, and assessment-focused approach to identify and mitigate potential risks effectively. This immersive, fast-paced, and interactive presentation will explore the current threat landscape and provide insights on how to prevent violent incidents. By focusing on an employee assistance approach, the program will delve into the principles of behavioral threat assessment and the importance of creating or supporting a team of skilled practitioners.
The session will cover various aspects of workplace threat management, including identifying and understanding the nature of today's threats, recognizing evident and subtle indicators of threatening behavior, and implementing effective strategies to mitigate risks through behavioral threat assessment. Participants will also gain valuable insights into the structure and purpose of a Behavioral Threat Assessment team and learn how to develop comprehensive response, safety, and management plans tailored to address threats within their specific workplace settings.

Elevating Threat Assessment: From Insights to Action
Afternoon Training for EAPs (with Threat Assessment Experience or Who Have Participated in

Training)
In this second session, the focus will shift towards linking the foundational concepts of behavioral threat assessment with practical, real-world applications that are directly relevant to the role of employee assistance providers. While the session will explore more advanced topics, the information presented will be valuable to threat assessment practitioners at all levels of expertise, including those who are just beginning their journey in this field. Through the analysis of case studies, participants will gain insights into incidents that were missed opportunities for prevention and learn to identify the subtle signs of escalating threats, such as leakage and other indicators.
The session will also emphasize the importance of organizational buy-in, discussing strategies to engage stakeholders at all levels and develop the necessary support for the safety of employees. Additionally, the program will highlight the significance of self-care and team care, recognizing that the well-being of threat assessment practitioners is essential for effective performance. Participants will learn new strategies to maintain a healthy and focused team, as well as techniques to navigate team dynamics, motivate team members, and overcome challenges related to staffing changes. By the end of the session, attendees will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to enhance their threat assessment capabilities and foster a thriving, resilient team.

Jim Bennett has been Bolante.NET’s Director of Violence and Physical Security since
the company was established in 2017. After a short stint as a park ranger, Jim spent the
next 29 years in the public safety arena in municipal law enforcement, higher education,
public safety, and the fire services. As a popular trainer, speaker, and safety consultant,
Jim brings his unique set of experiences to projects related to violence prevention,
personal safety, physical security, and vulnerability assessments, psychological first aid,
behavioral threat assessment, and intervention.
He has led an award-winning department, along with highly regarded community
policing programs and leadership in developing a fire district emergency operations
center. His public safety leadership responsibilities have included municipal crime
analysis operations, crime prevention services, and a behavioral threat assessment
team. Jim incorporates within his training and consulting the unique experience of a
crisis communication expert, having served more than two decades as a public
information officer in emergency services, and is the lead instructor for Bolante.NET’s
course for public information officers (for FEMA IS-29).
Jim continues to build upon his experience as a listener, collaborator, and leader. He
currently provides training and consulting through Bolante.NET to organizations ranging
from the largest in the world to smaller organizations in the government, tribal,
education, and private sectors.
