Eating Disorders: the Number Two Preventable Psychiatric Killer

What an EAP Needs to Know

What is Presented? 

This course serves as an informational, and question responsive presentation on eating disorders for individuals with diverse training and experience. Eating disorders are much misunderstood, and plagued by misinformation and myth. This course is designed to deliver a wide ranging discussion on critical topics in the eating disorder field such that attendees can become informed, engaged, and active. The course will cover topics including: defining the eating disorders, key statistics. impacts of eating disorders, understanding the etiology of eating disorders, co-occurring conditions psychiatric and physical, eating disorders and suicide, risks for eating disorders, early identification, early intervention, treatment approaches, school-based information, social media, resources for clinicians, resources for parents and caregivers, Working in a didactic fashion, Dr. Greenberg will address questions or comments from attendees. 

Course Objectives:

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

1. Attendees will learn about the various eating disorders, etiology and treatments
2. Attendees will learn about the complexity of eating disorders, co-occurring and co-morbid physical and psychiatric disorders
3. Attendees will learn about treatment and management of eating disorders, value of early identification and early intervention, and what resources are available.

Who Presents?

About the Presenter: Jeffrey Greenberg, PhD

Dr. Jeff Greenberg is a clinical psychologist with more than 20-years-experience in clinical, research, policy, technology, and program activity on behavioral health, and human wellness. Over the course of his career as a healthcare consulting leader. he has worked on military and Veteran's health (PTSD, brain injury, substance misuse, and suicide), has led research on rare diseases in children, quality of clinical  care, brain biomarkers, epidemiology of toxin exposure, developmental and learning disabilities, technology applications and behavioral health, and eating disorders. Dr. Greenberg was the Project Director for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Eating Disorder Center of Excellence which achieved record breaking attendance for webinars on critical topics related to eating disorders.

Dr. Greenberg completed his PhD at Drexel University College of Medicine in the problem-solving laboratory of Dr. Chris Nezu. He would later complete his internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the National Center for PTSD at the Boston VA Medical Center with fellowships at Harvard Medical School and Boston University School of Medicine. He lives in Northern Virginia with his family.

3. Partner with leaders to balance business continuity with compassionate care.
4. Support reintegration and resilience through flexible accommodations and long-term planning.
5. Apply ethical and culturally responsive practices with practical tools and resources.
