Mark Berg MA, LPC-S, CEAP, ACC, CCISM
Mark began his career as a counselor and employee assistance professional in 1987. He is the former Director of the Employee
Assistance Program (EAP) for the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center where he served for almost 11 years. He directed an internal EAP in the airline industry for 8 plus years for ExpressJet Airlines and provided related services
to local hospitals and companies in the oil and gas industry. Mark is a licensed professional counselor - supervisor level (LPC-S), Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP), and a Substance Abuse professional
(SAP) under the DOT. He is trained in Marriage and Family Therapy. Mark is a certified coach (ACC), a Coach, Rice graduate from Rice University, and a member of the International Coaching Federation. He is an associate
of LAH Insight Executive Coaching. He has coached C-Suite executives, leaders of all levels, faculty/physicians, and potential leaders for over 20 years in many different business endeavors addressing leadership,
communication, productivity, professionalism, and business skills
His professional expertise includes assisting organizations and their employees after critical incidents and disasters. He serves as the National Clinical Director of the Critical Incident Response Program for the Air Line Pilot Association (ALPA). He still consults with the airline industry surrounding substance use, mental health challenges, and critical incident response. He
is a trainer through ICISF (International Critical Incident Stress Foundation) for Group CISM, Advanced Group CISM, and Assisting Individuals in Crisis and specializes in Aviation but also instructs for First Responders, Law Enforcement,
and medical professionals. Mark is a member and former/past president of IAEAPE (International Association of Employee Professional in Education). He is a long-term member of EAPA International where he is currently
on the International Board of Directors. He has served on the board of the Houston Chapter of EAPA as the Vice President and President. He has presented regionally, nationally, and internationally at different conferences
and trainings.
Sgt (Ret.) Christopher J.A. Scallon, MPsy, CCISM.
Sergeant Chris Scallon retired as a 24+year veteran with the Norfolk Police Department, holds a Masters in Psychology, BS in Criminal Justice, and certified in Critical Incident Stress Management from the University of Maryland BC Emergency Health Services.
He provides direct mental health and/or substance abuse services, in addition to connecting first responders, veterans, and their families to resources. He is a current consultant/responder for the Department of Justice Antiterrorism and Emergency Assistance Program (AEAP).
He is a current ambassador for Lighthouse Health & Wellness, speaking around the country to promote mental health awareness for all public safety, veterans, and their families.
He was the former National Public Safety Liaison for Shatterproof First Responders’ and Veterans’ program. He is the Founder of Survival Mindset Training and Consulting, Co-Founder of Trauma Behind the Badge.
He was the founder, and first Director, of the Norfolk Police Department’s Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) & Peer Support Unit, Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Co-Coordinator for the Norfolk Police Department. Sgt. Scallon is a peer and current board member of Virginia Law Enforcement Assistance Program (VALEAP), a certified peer with the West Coast Post Trauma Retreat/First Responder Support Network. Having been involved in multiple shootings he is intimately familiar with trauma and the consequences of exposure. Former Director of Public Safety Support for Chateau Recovery.
Chris is an approved instructor for International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF) teaching Basic and Advanced Assisting Individuals in Crisis and Group Crisis Intervention a certified Mental Health First Aid Instructor (Adult/Veteran Modules) through the National Council for Behavioral Health, and Iraq and Afghanistan Veteran’s Association (IAVA), and a Master Trainer for Homefront Protective Group teaching across the country and abroad. As an international speaker/trainer, he is often sought out to provide services in the wake of significant critical incidents. Chris has worked with victims of numerous mass shootings (e.g., Pulse Night Club, Sandy Hook/Newtown, Virginia Tech, Virginia Beach.)
Sgt. Scallon is currently a Training and Technical Assistance Consultant for the Office of Victims of Crimes (OVC TTAC). He is also on a team tasked with creating a nationally accepted CISM model with the IACP. Previously, a Vicarious Trauma Fellow with the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and Northeastern University working on a national grant from the U.S. Department of Justice-Office of Victims of Crimes, creating an evidence-based vicarious trauma toolkit for first responders (e.g. EMS, Fire, Law Enforcement, and Victim Advocates). He was recently selected to be the Chair person for the Peer Support portion of the National Consortium on Preventing Law Enforcement Suicide.
Chris is a U.S. Navy Veteran, served as a line officer in the Port Washington, NY Fire Department, Atlantic Hook & Ladder, Light and Heavy Rescue.
Chris was directly involved in multiple traumatic incidents within the aforementioned fire, military, and police agencies; in addition, to multiple deadly force encounters during his tenure as a police officer, both directly and indirectly. He has first-hand experience with the primary, secondary, and tertiary, effects of trauma related to personal and professional relationships.
Chris has received numerous awards to include the National Top Cop award (NAPO), Virginia’s Public Safety Medal of Valor (presented by Former Governor Tim Kaine), and the Norfolk Police Department’s Medal of Honor. He has received multiple certifications from the Nassau County Fire Service Academy in Long Island, NY.
